Reverse of Cover Page
As Kerrang include an advertisement in ever issue on the reverse of the Cover Page, I have added an ad for a tour that is happening in January. Also, with this tour, there are some dates that are sold out but this was not stated on the poster, so I added the words 'SOLD OUT' in Red text and put this across the dates that do not have any tickets left. I like this page because it makes my magazine more realistic.
Development of Contents Page
I have now finished my Contents Page and I am more than happy with how it has turned out. I have taken some screenshots to show the main steps of the making of the Contents Page.
First, I found a paper background on Google that I felt went well with my scrapbook theme.
I then created my 'Contents' title with a small catchline underneath it, mine being 'We've Got You Covered'.
I then brightened up my images ready to then place onto my page.
I then added the Blue Rectangles that act as separators for my stories as well as my images, page numbers and small sub-headings.
Then, I began to put my stories and page numbers into the different sections: Features, News, Shots, Latest Albums,Ultimate Gig Guide and CrowdSurf Competitions
And finally, I added my Editor's Column paragraph, which sums up parts of the issue, promotes it's social media site Twitter, and talks about the band in the photo.
Contents Page Update
After initially experimenting with my contents page layout that I had picked, I really didn't like how it was going. So, I had a look through some other issues of Kerrang, and I found a layout that I feel will look better in my magazine and looks a lot better in Kerrang. Below, I have attached a photo of the page I found, and I have also created another flat plan for my Contents Page.

Cover Page Update 2
I have now added more to my cover as I was experimenting and I thought it was a good idea to just add the extras straight away. I think it is looking so much better now that I have added more and I am looking forward to seeing what the final outcome is like. I have added a Barcode, a Main Story Teaser and Photo and a Sub-Heading with photo across the bottom of the page.
Creating and Adding A Barcode
To provide the reader with information regarding my issue (Issue Number, Date of Release and Price), I created a Barcode to go at the bottom right corner of the cover. This is a basic convention of a magazine and I feel that it made my magazine come together more. I first found a generic bar code on Google Images, I then added my text to the top of it, I flattened the layers and then finally dragged and re-sized it into position.
Adding Images To Cover
To vary the images on my cover, I turned my photo of Kevin Skaff into a circular image from square. Here are the steps below that I went through in order to achieve this. I think it makes my page look more varied and interesting.
Cover Page Update
I am happy with the progress that I am making on my Cover so far. I have added the main body of text, my main image and I am in the process of adding my own photos for the separate main stories and the different generic magazine features (barcode etc.). I have added a Drop Shadow to my Skyline, Exclusive Box, Sub - Heading Box and my Puff in order to make these stand out to the reader, I am also going to do the same for my Masthead.
Contact Sheets for Content Images
As I have many photos of bands that are included in my magazine that I have taken myself, I would like to include them in my issue. So, I have created two contact sheets below to show some of my favourite photos, the first set were taken at a Blink 182 show in Brixton, and the second were taken at Leeds Festival back in Summer 2014. I have pictures of Kevin Skaff, The Story So Far and Blink 182, all who I am going to mention on my Cover.
Further Background Development
When I was practicing my cover page layout, I noticed that the text was hard to see on some areas due to the colour of the Blink 182 logo behind it. So, in an effort to prevent this, I added a fourth smiley, coloured Yellow. I think this design looks better than my initial one and I think the writing will now be easier to read as a result of the change.
Photoshop Experimentation
In order to be able to work more on this project at home, I installed Photoshop onto my laptop. Last night, I edited my cover image and cut it out ready to place onto my background that I made during Friday's lesson. I refined the edges on my image to include all of Beth's strands of hair and make the image look more like she was stood in front of the background and not like I had just cut round the edges of the image and stuck it on the top. Overall, I am very happy with how my cover image has turned out, the shirt Beth was wearing also ties in with my colour scheme, and I think it will look very effective once I put the background and image together.
Cover Page Photo Shoot Contact Sheets
I was very happy with my shoot on Friday, and I have collated all of my images onto contact sheets below. Out of my photos, I picked a photo that I felt would be perfect on the front of my magazine, I have also put this below.

Call Sheet For Magazine Images
As I had issues with the camera last week, I am planning on re-shooting today, here is my call sheet providing all of the details about my shoot.
Friday 28th November 2014 Lesson Review
Like I said in my last lesson review, I had an idea of using a Blink 182 UK Flag as my background for the Cover Image. However, the colours on the flag does not suit my Colour Scheme and it didn't look right when I experimented with it in Photoshop. So, after doing some research online, I found an image that I really liked and that I felt would look good as a background image, because the band logo ties in with my main story, and it looks quite arty (how I wanted my background to be). I first tried to just have this image repeated over and over on the page, but I wanted to create my own background image and be individual, so I made my own using a Blink 182 logo and the colour fill tool, I changed the colours of the logos and collated them onto the page to create a 4,3,4,3 pattern. I am very happy with how it turned out. I then began to add my main features (Masthead, Skyline etc.) onto the newly created background. I am very happy with my progress today and I am due to get some more shots to add into my magazine.
Cover Page Background + Skyline and Tagline Space
Here is my final Cover Page background and I have added a Pink Skyline and Blue Tagline space, to tie in with my Colour Scheme and match the logos.
Final Product - Cover Page Background
After quite a bit of experimentation work, I have came up with a design for the background of my Cover Page. As I wanted it to look quite illustrated and link in with my colour scheme, I have created a Graffiti style background using the Blink 182 logo, as this band have a huge link with my main story. I have used Black, Pink and Blue coloured logos and I really like the look of the repeated pattern I have created. I was inspired by an image that I found online which I have included below. I then re-created my own version of this image using Photoshop and overall, I am very happy with the look of it.

Thursday 27th November 2014 Lesson Review
Today, I changed my mind about the background on my front cover. Blink 182 (the band who the super fan loves) brought out their own UK flag which I have, and I think this would look good as a background. I don't have a photo of it on the computer, so I used one of my images from Pinterest to get a rough idea of what it would look like with images over the top of it. I really like the idea and I am thinking about considering it for my final piece. I am planning on starting my final product tomorrow using In Design.

Tuesday 25th November 2014 Lesson Review
in todays lesson, I furthered my research with the extra information background for my double page spread. I also had an idea that I could include a receipt style part in my story to show how much the fan has spent on the band, I felt that this would make it more scrapbook style and look quite appealing to the reader. I also added a sample image to my Cover Page Mock Up on Photoshop. I am happy with how it looked and I now feel confident that I will be able to start making my actual cover photo.
Double Page Spread Write Up
I have written out my Double Page Spread in a Word Document. I have tried to keep my text suited to the target audience throughout and am quite happy with the final result. I have tried to make sure all of the text links well and I have made elements of it entertaining to keep the reader interested.

Monday 24th November 2014 Lesson Review
In the lesson today, I Spent my time experimenting in Photoshop testing out different things for my double page spread. I was trying to come up with a background for my extra information column ready to export into In Design. This gave me more of an idea of what I can create in Photoshop using different techniques such as adding shapes and changing objects colour. I also had a go at adding different features to pages to make it more like a scrap book. I added a pencil to my page and added what is supposed to look like a piece of sticky tape to the corner of the page to make it look like the tour poster had been stick in this way.

Photoshop Image Experimentation
I have used Photoshop to practice editing my photos. I have used one of my most recent images in order to experiment with the curves of an image (making an image look brighter or darker). I think this is a very easy and effective way to make photos look more alive and vibrant, but not too harsh to the readers eyes.

Experimenting With Contents Page Layout
I have began experimenting with photoshop in order to create the contents page of my magazine. I have two screenshots here, the top one has the illustrated background on that I planned on using, and the bottom image doesn't have this background. I personally prefer the second image, because I feel that the doodles are a little bit distracting to the reader. However, I am not sure if I like how my Contents Page is looking as of now, so I am going to wait until it is finished to fully decide if I like the layout or not.

Process Of Creating Mock Up Contents Page Using Photoshop
I have included a screenshot to show the production of my Mock Up Contents age to show the development of my product. I think that this program is a very effective tool to use when making magazines and it can take a long time, but the results are worth it.
